School of Nursing and Allied Health - Head of School (1.0fte)

The University of Chichester is delighted to be able to offer a new post as the inaugural Head of the School of Nursing and Allied Health. This is a brand new school, so this is a great opportunity to help shape the future of our Nursing and Allied Health provision. Our current health-related portfolio across the University includes Social Work and Social Care, Psychology, Counselling, Nutrition, Sports Therapy, Biomechanics, Public Health, and most recently BSc/MSc programmes in Physiotherapy.

We are developing a range of undergraduate and postgraduate Nursing programmes that will be recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the healthcare and wider sectors in which our graduates will work. The immediate priority is the successful launch of pre-registration Adult Nursing for September 2021. Nursing and Allied Health is based at our Bishop Otter Campus and is adjacent to St Richard’s Hospital, which has been rated as Outstanding for acute care.

We are particularly looking for applicants with experience of leading a programme through the 2018 NMC approval process. The successful applicant will hold a current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and have a relevant undergraduate and Masters level degree. You will be expected to work at a strategic level with professional bodies and develop relationships with key external stakeholders – our placement providers and service user groups. A detailed understanding of professional regulatory body requirements related to nurse education is essential.

Previous experience as an NMC reviewer is desirable, as is a Doctorate degree combined with a good research track record. You will be expected to either continue with an established research topic or establish a new research area in collaboration with School and University colleagues. Our research inspires, and feeds directly into, our teaching programmes, ensuring that all of our students benefit from exposure to the latest developments in research.

We aim to ensure that we equip our graduates with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace upon graduation and throughout their professional careers. As such, we not only focus on the acquisition of technical knowledge, but also on vital transferable skills and professional practices.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by Professor Simeon Keates (Deputy Vice-Chancellor): email s.keates@chi.ac.uk, or via the Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Officer, Susan Coulter, email: S.Coulter@chi.ac.uk, or 01243 816288.

The University of Chichester welcomes applicants from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds as they are currently under represented at this level.

Closing Date: 30 November 2020 (at midnight) Interview Date: Interviews will be arranged shortly after the closing date.
