Interview date: 18 July 2017

The University of Portsmouth is seeking to appoint a 0.5 FTE Teaching Fellow to join its friendly and dynamic School of Computing. The position is to support the development of the School’s innovative new degree apprenticeships (Software Engineering and IT Consultancy). In this role you will be expected to develop and deliver significant specialist teaching support to our degree apprentices.  As this is a new initiative, we welcome your desire to explore and innovate your own pedagogy when engaging our students.

You will have excellent communication skills, and be able to engage, motivate and support our students. You will make significant contributions to teaching and assessment, and have a positive impact on the student experience.

We are a large diverse school with strong recruitment to a broad range of taught courses spanning the computing science discipline. We attract students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures both from within the UK and elsewhere in the world. The School also has a strong and growing research profile, achieving a GPA of 2.81 in REF2014 and is currently running projects with a total value of just under £1.6 million.

Your duties will include preparation of materials and teaching on the degree apprenticeship. You will also be asked to take on administrative and other management activities appropriate to the post, including assessment, student recruitment and unit co-ordination. Full support is provided to develop your academic skills through the APEX Programme and a post-graduate qualification, if required.

We welcome all applications, but applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups. The School holds an Athena Swan bronze award and is committed to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for men and women. The School has a flexible working policy, which is able to support working arrangements for those with caring responsibilities.

For an informal discussion, please contact Nick Savage (Head of School)
