You will be starting the role on a salary of £17,513 going up to £20,248 as you progress. You will be entitled to 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays).

Permanent, Full-time posts - 37 hours per week And a secondment/Fixed Term Contract post ending mid-October

Hours are 8.30 till 5pm - Monday to Friday. (There may be the occasional need to work out of hours). Portsmouth City Council is the largest social landlord in the area with responsibility for managing over 17,000 council owned and leasehold properties in Portsmouth and Havant - making it the largest social landlord in that area. This includes repairs and maintenance, rent collection, ground maintenance and cleaning, tenancy support and tackling anti-social behaviour. What is the job?

The role involves helping to keep the City Clean, Safe and Tidy and provide support/assistance where needed. This will involve speaking to tenants /leaseholders regarding the correct disposal of black bags and bulk items. Tenants and leaseholders have previously been informed of the correct procedure for disposing of these items.

A key function of the role is to engage with the residents with a view to re-educate those who are not disposing of these items in the correct way.

Estate Services Officers also carry out checks on housing blocks. This involves checking for repairs, reporting cleaning and reporting and logging incidents of anti-social behaviour.

Who is the person?

1. Active listening skills You will work with customers, colleagues and other professionals and need to demonstrate active listening skills to process all relevant information. In order to build a positive rapport with customers, it is important that the customer feels they have been listened to and you understand their views and queries, whilst picking up on any vulnerabilities and managing the customers. expectations.

2. Great communicator You will be expected to engage with residents, following on from information passed to the team. You will need to be able to speak to people in a calm manner, whilst getting the message across and re-educating those residents who are failing to comply with the terms of their tenancy agreement. You will need to challenge behaviours when necessary. Asking the right questions and gathering information is very important as this may be used as evidence in the future. You will need to be able to communicate effectively to a range of audiences and vary your style of delivery and technique to achieve positive outcomes. The role involves speaking to residents whilst investigating black bags and bulk items that have been left outside of properties and in housing areas. The approach taken whilst speaking to residents at their doors will determine whether the outcome of the visit is successful or not. The right person will be able to deal with potentially difficult customers and stay calm at all times. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. You must have a keen eye for detail and will be a good investigator. 3. Organised To be successful in this role you will need to be organised. Keeping detailed notes regarding who you have spoken to, what was said, time, date, location. Information will need to be written down and then can be stored on PCC databases or used in a statement. You are expected to manage your time effectively and prioritise tasks. 4. Able to work as an individual and as part of a team You will be expected to be able to adapt between working on your own and supporting your team mates on a daily basis. As priorities change throughout the day, you may need to solve problems on your own and then support your team mates by joining them on a visit or in an emergency situation. The team regularly pass information to each other and support each other to gain a positive outcome for the customer and Portsmouth City Council. You will also need to work with other internal departments within Portsmouth City Council and external companies where needed. 5. Good I.T skills You will be expected to be competent in the use of excel, word and outlook. You will be updating and monitoring I.T spreadsheets and systems on a daily basis. You will also need to regularly write letters to residents and pass information and statements onto internal departments. 6. Motivation You will need to be pro-active and highly motivated with the ability to work quickly, accurately and consistently when under pressure, whilst still making the correct decisions and delivering outstanding customer service. 7. Flexibility You will need to have a flexible approach as you may be expected to work from any of the seven area housing offices. You will need to have a full driving licence and the use of a car for this role as will need to carry equipment with you, such as ladders and tools. (The Council will pay 45p per business mile travelled). You will need to carry out minor repairs to housing communal areas, such as changing light bulbs which will require the use of ladders. You will also need to be able to walk up several flights of stairs, move refuse bins and access bins to investigate waste. How to Apply - Please read carefully There is no application form.
